My thought of today

I saw this quote the other day that has been stuck in my mind.

“Be you. Everyone else is taken.”

I do not know who said it but it is so true in this world. I look around and see some many people trying to be like their friends, neighbours, co workers etc. The problem is they cannot keep up with them. I am tired of watching people go into debt while trying to keep up with the “Jones’s”.  We just need to learn to be content with ourselves and to stop trying to live someone else life.

The sad part is that we are passing these ideals unto our kids. Our kids are learning that you need the coolest phone, TV, car, biggest house etc, in order to be happy. This is a bunch of lies. Plain and simple.

I grew up in home where we did not have a lot of money. My brother and I learned young that you have work for things you want. We had our needs met and never went without. We did not have the coolest toys or clothes growing up. We still had a wonderful childhood. We were surrounded by family and friends who loved us dearly. We even :gasp: went outside and played!

I hope that this is what I can give my children, memories of a wonderful childhood full of love and happiness. I want them to learn to love themselves for themselves and that they do not the coolest thing going so people will like them.  I want them to know the simple things in life are enough to make you happy. I want them to know that there is only one you and that is worth way more!
